Toys for Kids
WHERE IS THE TOY COLLECTION AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
- The Toy Collection is located in the Main Library’s Youth Services area, behind the service desk.
- Toys are stored in locked cabinets and can be checked out by asking a library staff to retrieve the toys you’re interested in and check them out to you at the youth services desk.
- All toys are put into a bag (also checked out on your account) and should stay in the bag until you take them home. This prevents toy pieces from getting mixed in with our play area toys.
- You may have 20 toys checked out at one time.
HOW DO I REQUEST A TOY?
- You can request a toy and pick it up at any library location.
- Toys may be requested online (Limit by “Toy” when you search), by calling 218-730-4200/option 4, or by asking Youth Services staff.
- You will be notified when a requested toy is available for you to pick up, just like you are other requested library materials. Pick up held toys at the Circulation Desk at your chosen library location.
HOW LONG CAN I BORROW A TOY?
- Toys are checked out for four weeks and may be renewed 2 times, as long as no one is waiting for the toy.
- Toys may be returned to any of the Duluth Public Library locations, but won’t be checked in until they arrive back at the Main library.
- Please do not return toys in the bookdrops.
WHAT IF I LOSE A TOY OR ITS PIECES? WHAT IF IT GETS DAMAGED?
- Call or come talk to us at the Main Youth Services desk if something is lost or damaged.
- Charges will be assessed for damaged toys and for lost parts, based on the price of the toy and its continued usability. We understand how rough kids can be on toys and how easy it is to misplace pieces.
- Puzzles returned with missing pieces will be charged the full replacement cost of the toy.
Please note that not all toys are suitable for all children. The Library does not guarantee that toys will be germ-free. The Library reserves the right to suspend toy borrowing privileges.
