AVAILABLE NOW TO ALL ISD 709 STUDENTS
WHAT IS A PORT CARD?
A PORT CARD is an electronic library card that gives ISD709 students free access to Duluth Public Library resources without needing a physical library card and comes with no financial risk in the event of lost or damaged materials. Port Cards are for student use only.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A PORT CARD?
- Access the Duluth Public Library's online resources from school, including ebooks, audiobooks and databases for research.
- Check out up to 5 physical materials (such as books, magazines, and toys) at a time for FREE.
- Check out a 7-day MN State Parks pass or a 4-person pass to the Lake Superior Zoo for FREE.
- Check out up to 10 ebooks or audiobooks at a time for FREE.
- No physical library card needed. Students can check items out with their student ID number!
- No financial risk.
For students with a standard library card, a Port Card comes in handy by offering additional benefits to a standard card:
- access electronic Duluth Public Library resources while at school
- check out up to 5 books without their physical library card
- check out up to 5 books with no financial risk

A PORT CARD is an electronic library card that gives ISD709 students free access to Duluth Public Library resources:
- physical books, movies, music, toys etc.

- databases for research
Students in ISD709 are opted in to the Port Card program when they enroll. If a parent or guardian would like to opt their student out, they can do so by filling out the Port Card Opt Out Form
There are no financial risks when using a PORT CARD. If a student loses a book, Duluth Public Library staff will work with that students “pay” the replacement cost of the book by reading or completing other activities via our "Fresh Start" program.
Students can check out up to 5 physical books or materials. Students can also check out up to 10 ebooks, audiobooks or a combination of both through OverDrive.

Let library staff know that you’d like to check out books with your PORT CARD, and tell them your student ID number. No physical card required!
